Weekend Warrior

Wow, Saturda beach ultimate, fancy Italian dinner only to crash at my friend Michael’s house in order to get up nice and early (8:30am) to make a good stab at the San Francisco 49 Mile Scenic Drive, a drive it is, not meant as a ride, not on a bicycle.

We had to skip the segment on the highway, that was just too loco. We’re not suicidal. Instead be explored the area around the forgotten piers of San Francisco for a while and found some great warehouses and graffiti writer hotspots. Places that were nice to check out on Sunday morning but might be a bit intimidating on Friday night.

Sushi for lunch because we had to ride all the way to Japan town. Views because he had to ride up all these crazy hills. Then we just rode down again. This route is crazy. Definitely not meant for a bicycle. There are no qualms about heading up some nasty steep hills. We made it through the Presidio and all the way down to the San Francisco Zoo way down Ocean Beach, the headwind along the last stretch ricked out pretty hard. It was time to bail.

We only had a ride around Lake Merced, back up the the Golden Gate Park, and Twin Peaks remaining. I don’t think we could have physically finished even if we had enough daylight. Then again some people have performed amazing feats from Shackleton’s final push to the Stromness whaling station, Joe Simpson tumbling back to base-camp, death marches of the Nazi era,… I guess we had a rosy outlook if you think of it that way, but since it wasn’t a life-and-death situation we bailed and I headed to Taco night as Tim and Rui’s in Oakland while I suspect Michael headed home for a warm bath, the thing that he keeps raving about after spending many months under crappy showers in Central and South America.

We hope to keep riding, getting in better shape, maybe wait until the days get a bit longer and conquer this 49 mile course. Blasted hills make it a beautiful challenge.

Now I’m back at work, I guess it’s good for my muscles to get a bit of rest though it sure is nice out there…

Rape

Good God the blog comment spam hit me pretty hard today - too bad the sites they were advertising were down, I was totally jonesing to see some rape websites on my commute this morning - what a letdown.

Seriously, anyone know why there’s all this comment spam for websites that don’t exists in the first place? Kinda annoys me even more.

Yeah yeah yeah, I’ll write something real one of these days, been pretty short on time these days.

I’m moving to a new place on Dec 22, subletting from Nick - one of Shane and Jacob I’s friends — should be much more positive. Sauna, hot tub, tennis courts. Should be interesting.

Silly People

On the bike again…

“Is that an 18-speed? Huh?”

Is he talking to me where what.

I look back and see him fading quickly into the distance.

I give a thumbs up and pedal my 21-speed further on up the hill.

“Aaaaawwwwright,” he says.

Last night I found a Mural that I had bought the postcard for. That was nice to stumble accross. I sure love the murals here. It was just around the corner of the little sushi joint without a name sign and the steamy windows. I’d been meaning to check that out as well.

I fund this cute if anyone’s looking for distractions.
