As I was listening to the BBC Newshour this morning all the power went out in my apartment. We have a history of burning fuses and tripping circuits, I figured it was just such. However, upon checking the basement, there was nothing wrong there. I checked the second floor apartment, no power. We were genuinely without electricity. It is nice to be forced to think occasionally. At first, its just a little, ‘whatever, so what I will go to work and there will be power…’ Then you think, ‘um, I can’t check the Internet for the weather or for the traffic or for World Cup scores.’ As I left the house, there were signs of no power down the street, traffic light out (which was wreaking havoc amongst the driving fools) closed banks, and firemen chomping at the bit in front of the firehouse. How long is it supposed to take for society to breakdown? Three square meals?
Also, it is amusing that I am writing an entry about the power going out on the web.
